Doctor's Advice Game PDF Print E-mail

doctor.jpgThis is a classroom matching game with a twist! Make two sets of cards, one with ailments, and one with advice. You will need several more cards than there are students in the group. Print them on different colours. Each student gets a card and needs to find someone with a card of the other colour. "Sounds simple", I hear you say. Well, make sure you read on, because there's much more depth to this than a simple game of finding a matching pair!

Need a time-saver? I have versions for English and German, each with 12 ailment cards and 12 advice cards. Available for immediate download!

The student with the patient card says their line first and then the student with the doctor card gives their response. The pair of students needs to work out if the advice was appropriate for the ailment. If not, the student with the patient card looks for another doctor! If they do have a match, they come to you to get new cards and start again. This is a timed game lasting as long as you want.

Running this website costs me many dollars every month!

This is a great activity for mixed-level groups. If a student doesn't know a word on their card, they can ask you, and then they immediately have the opportunity to use it potentially many times before they get to change cards. Of course, they may also have the opportunity to teach other students the new word along the way.

It also encourages higher order thinking skills as students need to evaluate the quality of the advice for the particular ailment. This is enhanced if your sets of cards do not have a one-to-one correlation.
